Cable Plant Tech

Our Government Contracting Client is actively seeking a Cable Plant Technician. This is a junior position
and good entry point into the IT Field with plenty of opportunity for upward mobility. the work
involves the installation, configuration, upgrading and replacing or removing cable plant
hardware and software components comprising the NSWC PCD network infrastructure.
Network+ and Security+ certifications are expected to be achieved within 90 days. Client
will pay for all study material and the certification testing to ensure
certification is achieved.
Position Summary/Description:
Support all the network install, changes, and maintenance for the buildings being remodeled
or built. Install, test and activate network drops. Maintain Network Equipment. Install, repair,
or replace items such as net-shelters, fiber transceivers, switches, and all cabling. Activate,
deactivate, install, or remove network drops. Pull new fiber optic cabling between Buildings
or levels of Buildings. Terminate all Category 5 (CAT5) cable and Single Mode / Multimode
(SM/MM) fiber. trace out and patch through fiber or fusion splice fiber together. Must be
able to obtain IAT Level II certification within 3 months of hire date.
Essential Duties:
• Support configuration changes to the network due to the addition, relocation, or removal of
personnel, and the upgrade or replacement of hardware and software, to include all items
comprising the network cable plant and as required in accordance with the STIGs.
• Prepare and submit for approval electronic documentation and reports on the cable plant
in the format of Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), or AutoCAD as applicable.
• Install all Patch Panels, LAN, CCTV or Telephone Cable installation requirements IAW
NITISSIAM TEMPEST/2-95, RED/BLACK Installation Guidance.
• Install all Joint Service Provider IT Enterprise components IAW National Electrical Code
(NEC) 2011, American National Standard Institute (ANSI)/National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) 70. There is approximately one required power move per quarter which
consists of relocating a power outlet from one server rack to another. If the power move
requires the panel to be de- energized or locked ut/tagged out, the facilities manager is
contacted to bring in a certified electrician.
• Perform site surveys, assess and document current site network configurations, and
project cable plant installations, additions, and removals based on government priorities.
There are approximately 12 site surveys conducted per year.
• Conduct final installation operational testing to verify and validate the proper configuration
and operational capability of newly modified infrastructure.
• Perform analysis of PDS alerts, issues, and problems and document findings in
accordance with CNSSI No. 7003 standards during core hours. The system is monitored by
building security personnel outside of core hours.
Qualifications Required:
• U.S. Citizenship required
• DoD Secret Security Clearance
• DoD 8570.01-M Baseline IT Level I and IAT Level II certifications are desired
• 1 year of experience
• Working knowledge of Cisco Switching and routing a plus
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suites
