Job Description:
A warehouse specialist will be tasked with a variety of duties that keep a warehouse running efficiently. Responsibilities often include the following: shipping, receiving of material, storing, inventorying, and performing location audits (verifying material is in correct locations).

Responsibilities:
The warehouse worker’s duties and responsibilities should be clearly detailed in the job description. Ideally, the job description should also provide a description of the warehouse, its functions and the warehouse worker’s expected role. Some responsibilities include:
 Receiving, signing, verifying merchandise and quantities from activities
 Safely transporting materials to shipping
 Offloading and documenting material for DRMO, DDNV or ATAC
 Verifying materials (or merchandise) against receiving paperwork
 Assisting with the inventory of all material in warehouse and maintaining files/records
 Identifying any missing, lost, or damaged materials and immediately notifying the supervisor
 Ensuring that all the merchandise is safely and securely packed/packaged and labeled for shipping.
 Assisting with training of newly employed workers
 Scanning and creating labels and paperwork to ensure products are shipped to whether for warehouse or other activities.

Minimum Requirements:
 Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
 High school degree or equivalent is required.
 Possess a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a forklift license for 5K; pass a physical to obtain 20K license.
 Have reliable transportation to travel to and from work and Newport News Shipbuilding.
 Possess and maintain a Security Clearance.
 Ability to work on feet for 8 hours and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
 Ability to work independently and safely.

1. Communication: If email access is granted, due to key position such as IBS (integrated barcode system coordinator), communicating with others may be required via phone, email, and verbal. It is essential that the IBS coordinator understands the terminology of reports, and the process of utilizing IBS scanners for the purpose of receipts, stows (storage), inventories and location audits. *Communication must be accurate, easy to understand and appropriate, so listener will understand what is required*
2. Computer Literacy and Technology Skills: Basic understanding of how to use a computer, and knowledge about certain applications such as Microsoft Word, and Excel.
3. Teamwork: The ability to work in a team. You should be able to emphasize your ability to work with colleagues to accomplish tasks. The ability to work with a team will help you work and interact professionally with others internally and externally.
4. Problem-solving Skills: Even if you work in an environment where you are expected to follow instructions to solve problems, you still need to have the skills to solve problems to help you perform your job better. The type of employees most employers look for are those who can use analysis and reasoning skills to solve difficult problems.
5. Dependability: Employer needs someone who can be more productive to their company, you don’t need to socialize during your shift, endanger your fellow workers, and make an unnecessary mistake so that you can gain the trust of your employer.
6. Flexibility: The warehouse is an ever-changing environment. There are various carriers that require assistance, and flexibility is needed as per contract obligations.
7. Learning Skills: Utmost importance for warehouse employees to acquire learning skills in order to expand their skill set and knowledge and improve on the job. They need to be fast at learning about certain types of materials, equipment, etc. for better professional achievements that includes taking notes and using them as a reference which enhances problem-solving skills.
8. Punctuality. Being to work on time. Calling by 0800 and informing supervisor/management that you are unable to come to work today.
9. Decision-making Skills: It is essential to be able to make decisions effectively when you are working in a warehouse department. The ability to make quick decisions requires the implementation of critical thinking and problem-solving skills together.
10. Organization: All warehouse workers are supposed to be as organized as they can be, as he or she will likely to be tasked with taking inventory of material. The warehouse worker should be organized or arrange material in their assigned storerooms. Sweep and dust desk and storage cabinets on a weekly basis…remove all trash.
11. Production/accuracy: Speed is one of the most vital skills required when working in a warehouse. However, accuracy must be as important. Constant rework is not a conformance objective which is the expectations of the contract. Following procedures and processes set forth by SOPs, and instructions is necessary to increase production and accuracy. Errors can cost the government and /or company
money such as not performing PMs on material handling equipment before and after each use.

12. Self-Discipline: Self-disciplined workers are trusted to work independently, and they should be able to work with minimal supervision.
13. Respectful/Integrity: Trust in workplace.
14. Prioritization Skills: Prioritize assigned duties. In such a situation, you may be asked to abandon momentarily whatever you are doing and help with more pressing tasks to be able to meet a specific deadline.
